STUDENTS WITH AN AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER
"Autism
spectrum disorder (ASD) is the current name in the new, fifth edition
of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders ( American
Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013 ) for four previously separate
disorders: autistic disorder, Asperger’s disorder or Asperger’s
syndrome (AS), childhood disintegrative disorder, and pervasive
developmental disorder not otherwise specified (PDDNOS). DSM-5
describes people with ASD as having social communication and social
interaction deficits. Additionally, they demonstrate restrictive
repetitive behaviours, interests, and activities (RRBs)." Inclusion of
